Because we had our wedding anniversary coming up (and also because our neighbours have been driving us up the wall with their noisiness), Lenise and I thought we should

go away for the weekend to celebrate; we booked a cottage online, somewhere in the hills near the town of Emerald, and we set off straight after work on Fri

day. Soon as we cleared the city outskirts, we found ourselves on the dark country roads, trying to figure out exactly where to go, whilst taking care not to hit any kangaroos.. After a final stretch of dirt road (so that's why everybody has 4wd's here!), we reached our little secluded cabin in the woods. Besides the three cabins on the site, there was literally nothing in sight except gumtrees, and the only sound to be heard was the occasional laughing

Kookaburra! Inside there was a big jacuzzi, a nice warm woodfire already lit before our arrival, and plenty of local

Yarra Valley wine to last us the weekend..
On Saturday we went for a drive through the Yarra Valley to see some of the countryside. The weather was a bit stormy, but the scenery was beautiful nonetheless. After some chilly sightseeing on top of Mt Donna Bueng, and in the old growth forest on its slopes, we were glad to head back to our jacuzzi..

Unfortunately we only had the cabin for the weekend, so we had to head back into Melbourne on Sunday.. Oh yeah, before I forget, on the way back into Melbourne our path was crossed by Puffing Billy; the locally famous, but not so fast, steam train. Things move at a slower pace out in the country, but I guess that's not always a bad thing!

Until the next post!
